Chapter 14: Yggdrasil XII

Chapter 14: Yggdrasil XII

I returned home after the get-together. Strangely, Ulbert looked similar to an old friend of mine named Jacob.

'But, that shouldn't be possible; because he died during our fight with the empress of the Eldritch Horrors. Maybe, it is just a coincidence.'

If I had a fraction of my original cultivation, I could have found the answer in a heartbeat. But for the current me, it was close to impossible.

My best bet was to bring Ulbert to the new world and then try to find the answer.

'Nothing I could do right now.'

"System, keep an eye on Ulbert, and inform me when he does something weird."

[Understood, master.]

I took off the Hazmat suit and went to the bathroom to shower. After showering, I entered the VR Pod and logged into Yggdrasil.

~Scene Change~

It had been six months since I started working on my vampire variant. And I currently was at level 90. The reason why it took so long was; I wanted a hidden job class for this build. I had invested a significant amount of time to meet the majority of the prerequisites required to unlock it.

Among the classes I had attained were Lesser Vampire (15), True Vampire (10), Noble Vampire (10), Origin Vampire (5), Vampiric God (5), Weapon Master (15), Weapon Saint (10), Weapon King (10), Weapon Emperor (5), and Blood Drinker (5).

The vampiric God was the highest racial class for vampires. It granted me the power to command any lower-ranked vampire and the ability to manipulate blood without consuming MP.

It also gave the ability to summon lower-ranked vampires without consuming MP.

As for the weapon-related classes, they allowed me to use any weapon. They also provided me with weapon-specific skills.

With the Blood Drinker job class, I gained the ability to utilize blood as a resource.

I could use blood to heal myself, and if I had levels in mage-oriented classes, I could have used blood to cast spells.

The hidden class was known as the 'Weapon God' job class. To unlock it, I had to kill the boss of the Twilight Maze.

I had already cleared half of the dungeon without much effort. As I turned around the corner, a black shadow attacked me, but due to my agility, I evaded the attack.

Without waiting, I swung the sword to my side and received the kill confirmation.

[Congragulations on Defeating a level 90 Vampiric Mega Bat

! You have received 14,000 EXP]

[Effects of 'Advancement Amulet' and 'Ring of Ascension' have been applied. 14,000 -> 28,000 EXP.]

The 'Ring of Ascension' was an item I created. It had the same effect as the 'Advancement Amulet.' So combined, they boosted the EXP gained by 100%.

I kept traversing the narrow pathways of the dungeon, killing the monsters and collecting their loot. It took me two hours to reach the Boss Room.

Without wasting, I entered it and was met by a handsome young man sitting on a blood-red throne. He had white hair, eyes, and a fit physique.

He was holding a long sword and was looking at me dead in the eyes.

Without warning, he attacked me, not with a sword, but with a war hammer. I was able to evade the attack.

This was the ability I was after, the ability to change a weapon mid-attack. In Yggdrasil, you cannot change your weapon mid-attack. But the hidden class bypassed this restriction.

I needed this class because the weapon I wanted to make for this build involved changing forms from one weapon to another.

Without wasting time, I also attacked the boss with my sword.

"Sword's Respite!"

I used a skill from the 'Weapon Saint' class. It Temporarily boosted my attack speed and damage output, allowing for a rapid series of strikes.

I kept attacking the boss with different sword skills, and even though I had skills for other weapons, the sword felt natural to me.

Even in my previous life, I only used a sword as my weapon.

"Piercing Whirlwind!"

A skill from the "Weapon Emperor" class. Perform a spinning attack focused on a single target, dealing massive damage and ignoring a portion of their defenses.

But before I could use the skill, the boss vanished from his previous location. It had been 15 minutes since I started fighting. And despite my high level, I wasn't able to defeat him.

'He is more than likely above level 100.'

I quickly took out an HP recovery potion and drank it.

[HP: 77 -> 97]

I kept my guard up, looking around for the boss. Then suddenly, a sword pierced my chest, and I lost a lot of HP.

[HP: 97 -> 37]

I used a skill to quickly make the distance between us. I then took out an HP recovery potion and drank it.

[HP: 37 -> 57]

[HP: 57 -> 77]

'It should be one of his trump cards.'

I also decided to use one of my trump cards.

"Sword of Redemption!"

The final skill of the "Weapon Emperor" class enabled me to trade a portion of my health for a significant burst of damage against the enemy. The skill also ignored the enemy's defenses.

[HP: 97 -> 67]

The boss was able to evade the first strike. But after waiting for the cooldown to end, I activated the skill again. And this time, it struck the boss and killed him.

[HP: 70 -> 40]

[Effects of 'Advancement Amulet' and 'Ring of Ascension' have been applied. 45,000 -> 90,000 EXP.]

[You have leveled up.]

[Congragulations for getting the hidden class the "Weapon God."]

I smirked, saw the notification, and proceeded to collect the loot.

'I step closer to creating the Ultimate Weapon.'

~Scene Change~

It had been a few months since Momonga finished his vampire variant. And every Player of Yggdrasil was excited about the World Champion Tournament.

In the meeting hall of the clan of Red Bears, an important meeting was taking place.

Yelena: "So, what's his response to the restriction?"

Mikhail: "He is willing to play the Tournament with it."

During the months, Momonga had been extra active. Raiding different dungeons and killing Players of various races. It had earned him a bad reputation with the Players of the Human and Demi-Human races.

Now, almost everyone knew; Momonga played as a Doppelganger and was able to switch to different races mid-fight. This caused many angry Players to report Momonga. But because there wasn't any proof of cheating, the devs couldn't do anything.

But, when the Tournament was announced- and the names of the Players that wanted to participate were made public, every single Player begged the devs to remove Momonga from it.

But the devs couldn't remove someone if they hadn't done anything wrong. So, in the end, they restricted Momonga to only use one of his variants during the Tournament.

During the Tournament, Momonga would remain unable to switch to another variant. Many Players thought with a restriction like this, Momonga would either leave the Tournament or beg the devs to remove the restriction. But he accepted the handicap.

Yelena: "Is that so. Well, he better be prepared to die then."

Mikhail: "You sure are confident in killing him."

Yelena: "His only latent was to change races mid-fight. Now that he doesn't have that, it will be easy to kill him."

Mikhail: "I don't know, sis. He's still a strong opponent without the ability to change races."

Yelena: "Have you forgotten? He plays as a Doppelganger; if he can't switch races, he's no match for me."

Her confidence wasn't unfounded. Almost all the Players knew; a Doppelganger could only show 80% strength of a level 100 Player. Their only advantage was their versatility.

No one knew; Momonga had the "Doppelganger's Progenitor" class, which allowed him to show 100% of the strenght of a level 100 Player.

Ivan: "Still, be careful."

Yelena: "I will, so don't; worry about it."

~Scene Change~

In the meeting hall of Nine's Own Goal, another discussion was unfolding.

Touch: "So, which Tournament are you going to fight in, Momonga-san?"

Because there were nine realms in Yggdrasil, there were nine Tournaments for nine different World Champions.

Momonga: "I'm thinking about Helheim. What about you, Touch-san?"

Touch: "I'm thinking about Alfheim."

Momonga: "Good choice."

Ulbert: "I heard the devs handicapped you."

Momonga: "Yeah, they did."

Touch: "See, if you have listened to my advice and didn't kill those players. Now, you wouldn't be restricted."

Momonga: "Come on, Touch-san. You know that even with this restriction, I will win the Tournament."

Touch: "I am not saying you are weak. I am just saying, with this restriction, you have fewer ways to deal with your enemies."

They carried on with their discussions for a brief while longer, and eventually, all agreed to log off.

~time Skip~

The Tournament was scheduled to kick off the following day. Momonga and some of his clan members were en route to Helheim for the event.

Ulbert: "So, what variant are you using for the Tournament?"

Bukubukuchagama: "I think big brother Momonga should use the demon-variant. Its style is so cool~."

Herohero: "I think the vampire-variant is the coolest."

Peroroncino: "I am still mad. Why didn't you choose to play as a Lolita."

Momonga: "Because I am a man."

Some other Players also joined the clan of Nine's Own Goal. Now it had 27 members. And some of them were saved by Momonga.

~Flashback~

A birdman holding a bow and an Orange Slime was moving through a thick forest.

???: "Hurry up, sis!"

???: "I'm running as fast as I can~."

They dashed swiftly, both caught in a sprint, pursued relentlessly by a monstrous creature resembling a colossal bear. The birdman swiftly notched an arrow into its bow and let it fly towards the pursuing beast.

However, the projectile struck the creature's tough hide and was deflected off to the side.

???: "Shit! How tough is his hide?"

Suddenly a blur moved from the sidelines and collided with the monster. Beheading the bear in a single move. The blur was none other than Momonga in his vampire variant.

???: 'Shit! Who's this?'

As the new Player turned around and faced the duo. The slime moved in front of the birdman and took a defensive stance.

While the birdman nocked another arrow and aimed his bow at the human Player.

Heteromorphs killing other Heteromorphs wasn't uncommon. Many killed others to fulfill some conditions for a new class or for a quest. So their actions were justified.

???: "Take another step, and I would shot you!"

The Player raised his hand above his head and said.

Momonga: "Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you. I am not a bad Heteromorph."

After saying this, the Player started to morph into a 7 feet tall figure with three holes in his face.

???: 'A Doppleganger, huh?'

Momonga: "I am Momonga, by the way. What's your name?"

Perro: "My name is Perroronchino, and I am a verified pervert."

Buku: "My name is Bokubokuchagama~"

Momonga: "It's nice meeting you two. But, let me ask you, what are you two doing in human territories?"

Perro: "I'm here for a quest."

Momonga: "A quest, huh? Maybe I could help you complete that quest."

Perro: "Are you serious?"

I nodded to his question.

Perro: 'If he wanted to kill us, he would have done so. He is stronger than us. So, I don't think he intends to harm us.'

Perro: "Thank you so much; I've been stuck on this quest for god knows how long."

After a few minutes of talking, you three decided to move toward the quest objective.
