The Divine Wolf... or?

Chapter 221: The Power of the New Skills!

With that being the case, the experimenting would have to wait until morning, he couldn't exactly test the skill out whilst everyone was sleeping. Instead, he decided to take a look at the other skills he had awakened.

[Chaos Soul]

[After fusing numerous souls, the first chaotic soul of the universe was born. Allows the user to use soul power. Amplifies the power of all magic used in conjunction with the soul, at the expense of soul power. Grants the host immortality as long the soul is intact.]

After reading through the description, Ark realised why he felt so different. This soul he had awakened was the source of his new power, and also why he felt so different after his evolution. Since he was now a Sovereign, Ark guessed that the sovereign title was because of his awakened soul. He also presumed that there were others out there like him.

As for the immortality part, Ark wasn't sure whether it meant that he could live forever, or just that he couldn't die before his natural lifespan was up. If it was the former, he would think that it was a little frightening. Unless he surrounded himself with people that had awakened their souls like him, wouldn't he end up all alone when they died of old age?

Like the chaos domain, Ark couldn't test out the power of this new skill immediately, and he decided just to do it in the morning. He still had two other skills to take a look at, and he started by inspecting [Sovereigns Howl].

[Sovereigns Howl]

[The howl of a sovereign is a sign of supremacy. All allies in the range of the howl will have their strength and morale amplified by 20%, whilst all enemies will take damage according to the expenditure of mana and soul power. Can be used in conjunction with other skills.]

Although it wasn't as crazy as the other two skills, Ark could already see plenty of uses for this skill, and if he combined it with some of his other skills, it could truly be a perfect weapon for war. Since it boosted morale and amplified his teammates' power, it was perfect for a battlefield. Especially combined with the effect it would have on his enemies at the same time.

If he stacked it with his chaos domain, his enemies would barely be able to move, whilst his teammates would be 50% stronger. It was frightening just thinking about it.

Normally, Ark wouldn't be participating in any large-scale battles, but considering the visions he had seen of the future, he was sure that the world would soon fall into chaos. Troublesome undercurrents were surging all over the continent, and the war between humans and demons was only the start.

If Ark wanted his family to be truly safe, he needed power; in the form of both personal power and subordinates alike.

The only thing that Ark found questionable was where he would be able to find any trustworthy subordinates. Although he was technically a member of Torment of the Fallen, it was still an organisation made up of humans. Ark didn't find humans very trustworthy. He knew that his thoughts were biased because of his bad experiences, but there wasn't much he could do about it.

He would feel like an idiot if he decided to put his trust in humans once more only to be betrayed again.

The only skill Ark had yet to check was the [Chaos Magic] skill.

[Chaos Magic]

[A peculiar and strange branch of magic. Requires extreme precision and mana manipulation, as well as an affinity to all elements. Because it is fusion magic of all elements, the power it contains is immense, but it also requires an affinity to all elements. Because the skill is only level 1, the host can only use elementary magic.]

After reading through the description, Ark pondered a little. Compared to the other skills, [Chaos Magic] didn't stand out that much. Although the description described the power as immense, Ark couldn't be sure how immense it was until he tried it out himself. Hopefully, it would be a pleasant surprise.

Whilst Ark was engrossed in his thoughts and staring out into space, Ephine was silently watching him with complicated emotions. She could see that he was thinking about something instead of sleeping, and she couldn't help but worry about him. This habit of his was something that she had noticed before, but she didn't know what he was thinking about.

She didn't want him to shoulder all the burdens by himself, but she wasn't sure if it was appropriate to say it out loud. She had never really cared about anyone other than Atar before, and she didn't know how to approach such situations, she had no experience to speak of. Instead of voicing her thoughts out loud, she simply snuggled up closer to Ark, bringing him back to reality.

After gazing into the eyes of each other for a while, Ark realised that he had probably worried her a little, so he stopped thinking for now, and went to sleep after snuggling with Ephine a little. This sleep of his lasted a lot longer than Ark could've anticipated, as he only woke up two days later. To Ark's astonishment, both Atar and Ephine had been by his side the entire time, watching over him.

Ark could feel the love in his heart growing stronger, and his desire for strength became a little worse. If he grew strong enough in the future, he would not only be able to protect those he loved, but he would also be able to create an ideal universe just for them, where they could be happy.

Although it was a little far-fetched, and Ark wasn't sure how long it would take, he was still determined to make it happen.

This little happiness he had needed to be protected. If he managed to lose even this, then there was no point in living anymore. After being engrossed in his own thoughts for a while, Ark snapped out of it and transformed into his human appearance. With practised movements, he began preparing a sumptuous breakfast for everyone, including himself.

The preparation would've normally taken him more than an hour considering the number of dishes he had made, but Ark managed to finish them in less than ten minutes. The reason was actually quite simple; Ark had used his new time magic to speed up the process a few times. The convenience of time magic excited Ark, but he also realised some pretty serious downsides.

Time magic required extreme precision, focus and control over mana, so it was very hard to use. It also drained a lot of mana, but Ark would need to train his use in the magic before he could come to any real conclusions on how strong or effective it would be in actual combat.

It sounded strong to be able to age an opponent to death, or maybe to stop time, kill them, and then resume time, but how hard of a feat would that be?

Ark couldn't confirm anything yet, but he was still very enthusiastic about this new power. Even if it wasn't any good in combat, Ark was sure that it would be very convenient in his everyday life.
