Chapter 39
C39 – Taekwondo? It’s Just a Bunch of Tricks
The commotion erupted the instant Wang Xiao’s words left his lips. The boy in the camouflage uniform who had accompanied Lei Ji was visibly taken aback.
“Insolent! He’s beyond arrogant, claiming he’d only need one hand against Brother Lei.”
“Exactly! Does he not realize our Brother Lei is a Taekwondo red belt? He’s asking for trouble.”
“Brother Lei, teach this kid a lesson. Show him what Taekwondo really is.”
The group of boys trailing Lei Ji joined in the jeering.
“Hmph, kid, I don’t need any favors from you. Bring it on with all you’ve got.”
Lei Ji’s face darkened with a mix of anger and disdain as he addressed Wang Xiao with a chilling tone.
Bolstered by his friends’ taunts, Lei Ji’s fists tightened, and he lunged at Wang Xiao.
The diners in the restaurant, witnessing the unfolding drama, scrambled to the sides in alarm, eager to avoid getting caught in the fray.
“Trying to stop a chariot with the arms of a mantis!”
Wang Xiao remained unfazed as Lei Ji’s punch bore down on him. With a seemingly effortless motion, he extended his right hand and deflected Lei Ji’s oncoming fist.
Crack!
The crisp sound echoed through the air as Lei Ji’s punch was effortlessly parried by Wang Xiao.
“Such incredible strength!”
Astonishment washed over Lei Ji’s face as he stared at Wang Xiao, bewildered.
He alone knew the full force of his punch, yet Wang Xiao had casually brushed it aside. The power behind Wang Xiao’s palm was formidable indeed!
”Your punch packs a decent punch too,” Wang Xiao remarked with a light smile, acknowledging Lei Ji’s strength.
“Humph, then test out the strength of my kicks!” Lei Ji retorted with a cold snort.
His fists may have been powerful, but his true expertise lay in Taekwondo; his kicks were exponentially more potent.
With a fierce glare and a swift movement, Lei Ji’s legs propelled him forward, launching a spinning left kick at Wang Xiao.
The sound of his whiplash kick slicing through the air carried an intimidating whistle, signaling the sheer force behind it.
“A test of leg strength, you say? Very well, let’s see what you’ve got.”
Wang Xiao’s lips curled into a slight grin. His body shifted, and his legs blurred into twin shadows, striking out like venomous snakes, aiming for Lei Ji’s incoming kick.

Thud!
Legs clashed, sending a muffled echo through the air, quickly followed by a booming explosion of sound.
Wang Xiao stood his ground, his right leg poised in the aftermath of the kick, while Lei Ji staggered back several steps.
“Thunder Chicken, huh? Seems like your leg strength is pretty mediocre,” Wang Xiao said, a smirk playing on his lips as he slowly withdrew his right leg, his gaze on Lei Ji cool and detached.
”Thunder Chicken?” Lei Ji’s complexion darkened at the taunt, his eyes turning icy and fierce. Clenching his fists, he spat out through gritted teeth, “My name is Lei Ji, not Thunder Chicken!”
Pain etched across his face as the words left his mouth.
Lei Ji glanced down at his right calf to find a sizable bruise blossoming there, right where it had collided with Wang Xiao’s leg.
“How could this be? How could you possibly injure me?”
The sight of the bruise sent a wave of shock across Lei Ji’s face.
He had trained in Taekwondo for four to five years, relentlessly kicking sandbags. His legs weren’t iron, but they were tough.
It was inconceivable that Wang Xiao could inflict such a bruise with a mere kick.
“Thunder Chicken, nothing is impossible in this world. You must realize that a firefly’s glow will never comprehend the brilliance of the sun and moon,” Wang Xiao said, his voice steady and his face impassive as he regarded Lei Ji.
”I refuse to believe it. How could you be a match for me?”
Anger flared in Lei Ji’s eyes, his face shadowed with fury. Ignoring the throbbing pain in his knee, he bellowed as he rose to his feet, his injured leg pressing into the ground as he launched another kick at Wang Xiao.
His kick was ferocious, as if he were ready to risk it all in a fight to the death.
But Wang Xiao, unflappable, simply remarked, “So quick to a life-or-death struggle?”
In the midst of speaking, he shifted, vanishing from sight.
Whoosh…
A second later, Lei Ji sensed a figure materialize before him, a large hand bearing down.
Damn!
Lei Ji’s face contorted as he tried to dodge, but with his left leg fully extended in a kick, he couldn’t pull back in time. The large hand was already upon him.
“Mmm…”
Lei Ji could only feel his head being forcefully held down before he was sent crashing backward, his skull hitting the ground with a thud, much like a coconut being smashed by Wang Xiao.
Crack…
The crisp sound of the collision echoed in the air.
Dizziness overwhelmed Lei Ji; his whole body spun out of control as he lay on the ground, convulsing.
The scene sent the other boys in camouflage into a frenzy.
“Good lord, Brother Lei actually got taken down.”
“How can this be? Brother Lei is a red belt in taekwondo, a real pro, and this kid just took him out with ease.”
Beyond their shock, the boys in camouflage couldn’t hide the anger on their faces. A crew-cut boy spat out, “This punk thinks he can go after Brother Lei’s girl and just walk away? No way. We’re taking him down together.”
“Yeah, let’s do this. With all of us here, there’s no way we can’t beat him!”
Another boy in camouflage agreed. Both were close to Lei Ji and couldn’t stand by while he was defeated.
Their rallying cry turned the faces of the others to stone as they all fixed a menacing stare on Wang Xiao.
“What do you think you’re doing? Lei Ji agreed to a fair fight, one-on-one.”
Yao Beier’s face tensed as she saw the hostile looks from the boys in camouflage, and she quickly spoke up.
“Hmph, Brother Lei said he’d fight this guy one-on-one. He never said he wouldn’t let us all have a go at him!”
The boy with the crew cut stepped forward, sneering at Yao Beier, with the others chiming in behind him.
“Despicable!”
Yao Beier’s face flushed with anger, her adorable eyes blazing as she clenched her teeth.
“Don’t worry. Even if they all come at me, they’re no match for me. Trash will always be trash.”
At that moment, Wang Xiao tossed the unconscious Lei Ji aside and stood up, reassuring Yao Beier.
“You dare call us trash? You’re asking for it!” The crew cut boy’s face turned to thunder upon hearing Wang Xiao’s words. He gestured to the others and commanded, “Let’s go, all of us! Time to get revenge for Brother Lei!”
“Alright!”
The boys in camouflage uniforms shouted in unison, their fists clenched as they charged at Wang Xiao.
“Summer’s here, and so are the flies. Since you’ve all come at me together, I’ll just take care of you in one go.”
Wang Xiao let out a cold sneer as he watched the group bear down on him. Shaking his head with a light sigh, his gaze sharpened dramatically as he finished speaking.
Swoosh…
No sooner had his words faded than he vanished from his spot.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A series of muffled thuds echoed through the air in quick succession.
One by one, the crew cut guy and his cohorts were sent flying like rag dolls, slamming into the surrounding tables and chairs.
In a mere moment, they were all sprawled on the floor, writhing and howling in agony.
And then, as if nothing had happened, Wang Xiao reappeared in his original spot, his demeanor calm. He glanced at the groaning figures on the ground and shook his head. “Was this really necessary? Did you have to push me to act?”
Hiss…
The entire restaurant fell silent as the onlooking guests gasped, their eyes wide with awe as they fixed their stares on Wang Xiao, who stood like a god of war among them.
Before their eyes, with just a sway of his form, Wang Xiao had dispatched all the camouflaged assailants in an instant.
Was this guy even human?
“So cool!”
Even Yao Beier, standing to the side, couldn’t help but stare dreamily at Wang Xiao, whispering to herself in wonder.
He had the guts to challenge an instructor’s authority for her…
The courage to protect her from the harassment of Lei Ji’s admirers…
Handsome, with such impressive skills…
Who exactly was he?
A flurry of questions raced through Yao Beier’s mind, her curiosity growing with each passing second.
When a girl starts to get curious about a guy, it often signals the start of a story…
“Want to keep going?”
Wang Xiao approached the crew cut guy, his voice calm and collected.
“No, no more fighting,” the guy stammered, his face draining of color as he scrambled to his knees, pleading for mercy.
What a joke! He couldn’t even see how Wang Xiao made his move, so what business did he have trying to pick a fight with Wang Xiao?
“Enough fighting. Cough up a few hundred bucks, and do it quick.”
Wang Xiao gazed at the crew-cut kid with a calm expression and spoke in an even tone.
“What? Big bro, are you saying this is a robbery?”
The crew-cut kid was initially taken aback, then spoke up timidly. But under Wang Xiao’s imposing presence, he reluctantly pulled out five hundred yuan from his wallet and handed it over to Wang Xiao.
“Robbery? You’ve smashed up all this furniture. You think you shouldn’t have to compensate for the damage?”
Wang Xiao shot the crew-cut kid an angry look and spoke with a chilly voice. Without missing a beat, he grabbed the five hundred yuan and handed it to the middle-aged restaurant owner.
The crew-cut kid’s face was a picture of grievance. They were the ones who got thrashed, and now they had to foot the bill?
But he didn’t dare voice his complaint. Only after Wang Xiao had settled up with the restaurant owner did he venture to ask in a meek voice, “Big Brother, are we free to go now?”
