Tsundere Campus Goddess and Rogue Master

Chapter 40

C40 – Rebirth Camp Team, Mei Ying

“Scram, and from now on, when I’m around, stay at least five meters away from me.”

Wang Xiao spoke with a cool detachment, his voice icy as he addressed the crew cut guy and his companions.

“Yes, yes, yes.”

Thoroughly beaten by Wang Xiao, the crew cut guy didn’t dare object, nodding his head in rapid agreement.

With that, he and his camo-clad friends prepared to leave.

“Hold it right there!”

Wang Xiao’s commanding voice stopped them in their tracks, resonating with authority.

“Big brother, is there something else?”

The crew cut guy turned stiffly, his face a picture of misery as he looked back at Wang Xiao.

“Drag him away; he’s ruining my appetite.”

Wang Xiao gestured toward the unconscious Lei Ji, addressing the crew cut guy.

“Yes…”

The guy with the crew cut hastily nodded, signaling his friends to lift Lei Ji and they quickly exited the restaurant, their pace almost Olympic in its speed.

Once they were gone, the onlookers in the restaurant breathed a collective sigh of relief, yet their gazes remained filled with awe when they looked at Wang Xiao.

”Wang Xiao, I’m full. Let’s head back.”

Having lost her appetite after the ordeal, Yao Beier tugged at Wang Xiao’s sleeve and spoke in a soft voice.

“There’s still so much boiled beef left. Are you sure you’re full already?”

Wang Xiao was taken aback, looking at Yao Beier with a hint of surprise.

However, catching the worry in her eyes, he said nothing more and nodded, acquiescing to her request.

As evening fell over Forest City University, a tall, handsome man and a sweet-faced girl walked shoulder to shoulder.

The warm glow of the streetlights bathed them, casting their elongated shadows on the ground where they merged together.

Yao Beier’s cheeks were tinged with a delicate blush, her face awash with shyness as she looked down, unsure of what to say.

“Are you always this shy?”

Wang Xiao, amused by Yao Beier’s endearing timidity, couldn’t suppress a smile as he gently teased her.

“Ah, um…”

Hearing Wang Xiao’s words, Yao Beier was momentarily taken aback, then her face warmed with a deeper blush as she looked down and murmured a flustered response.

Does he think it’s bad for me to be this way?

I don’t want to be so shy either…

Yao Beier’s heart raced, her mind swirling with odd thoughts.

“You’re so adorable, haha…”

Wang Xiao chuckled upon seeing Yao Beier’s bashful demeanor, and couldn’t resist patting her head gently.

Boom…

Yao Beier felt a quiver run through her petite frame, her cheeks flushing. Her delicate face, as exquisite as carved jade, was awash with shyness, and her snow-white hands flailed uncertainly.

Is he… is he calling me cute?

How mortifying!

“Cute? How am I… cute?”

Yao Beier blinked her sparkling eyes and murmured timidly.

“It’s getting late; I should take you back.”

Wang Xiao, buoyed by Yao Beier’s endearing look, suggested with a light laugh.

But Yao Beier’s face subtly shifted at his words, a flutter of panic stirring within her.

He’s suggesting taking me back so soon…

Does that mean he doesn’t want to spend time with me?

Is he repelled by me?

“Silly girl, don’t think too much. If I don’t take you back now, your roommate sisters will start worrying,” Wang Xiao said, seeing through her concerns and smiling as he tousled her hair.

Reassured by his words, Yao Beier relaxed a bit.

The two chatted and laughed all the way back, the mood lively and warm.

Upon reaching the girls’ dormitory, they found many first-year students in camouflage, cozying up to each other after a day’s military training. Relationships had blossomed quickly, with some audacious newcomers embracing and exchanging sweet nothings.

“Wang Xiao, you can head back; I’ll go in on my own.”

Yao Beier, her face tinged with red, turned to Wang Xiao and spoke with a hint of shyness.

Her heart was in turmoil, her head a whirlwind of thoughts.

Was she actually on a date with Wang Xiao tonight?

Should she be doing something with him at this moment?

“Alright!”

Wang Xiao nodded, his attention drawn to the flirtatious gestures of the freshmen couples nearby. A sly grin spread across his face as he leaned in close to Yao Beier, chuckling, “Little beauty Yao Beier, isn’t this the time when you should do something?”

“Ah…”

Yao Beier’s cheeks flushed at Wang Xiao’s advance and his roguish smile. Her hands, white as jade, fidgeted aimlessly, her gaze flitting about in disarray.

Was this him trying to take advantage of her?

Was she about to let him?

Yao Beier’s heart raced. She didn’t dislike Wang Xiao—in fact, she quite fancied him—but to kiss him so quickly? That didn’t sit well with her traditional values.

”No, no, it’s too soon,” she finally managed to murmur, her face burning.

”Haha, I was only kidding, just teasing you a bit. Get some rest; I’m heading out,” Wang Xiao said, a triumphant thrill in his voice at her bashful reaction.

With a wave to Yao Beier, he turned and strolled away.

“Jerk!”

Yao Beier’s face grew even hotter, her lips pursing in a mix of annoyance and embarrassment.

That Wang Xiao was bad news!

Such an impudent Wang Xiao!

She had been so torn up over him!

Absolutely maddening!

Watching Wang Xiao’s retreating figure, Yao Beier stamped her foot in a mix of shame and anger. Her cheeks were a rosy pink, and her eyes, dark as onyx, followed his departure with a glint of mixed emotions.

“Hey, Bei’er, back so soon? How far did things go with Wang Xiao?”

Upon Yao Beier’s return to the girls’ dormitory, a bevy of big sisters in sultry sleepwear swarmed around her, their teasing voices overlapping.

“Don’t tell me, you’ve already held hands, hugged, and even kissed?”

One particularly seductive sister winked and asked with a mischievous grin.

”No, no,” Yao Beier stammered, her face awash with a fresh wave of red as she faced the playful interrogation of her roommates.

“No? Makes sense, considering there’s military training tomorrow. Going overboard would just make things awkward to maneuver.”

Another hearty big sister gave Yao Beier’s shoulder a reassuring pat, understandingly.

“Enough already, you’re making me blush.”

Yao Beier’s pale hand flew to her flushed face as she bashfully responded to the big sisters’ daring comments, prompting a chorus of laughter from the girls.

……

As the night deepened, a secluded street in Forest City’s Eastern District was shrouded in darkness.

Swoosh…

In an instant, dozens of black shadows appeared atop the street lamps lining both sides of the street. Their silhouettes cast eerie and mysterious shadows on the pavement below.

“This must be where Jia Er met his end.”

A chilling, raspy voice emanated from one of the shadows perched on a street lamp. Clutching a wide machete and radiating a frigid aura of malice, it was none other than Xue Ying, the captain of the Rebirth Camp squad.

“Captain, what’s our next move?”

Inquired another shadow from atop a different street lamp.

“I’ve got word that Wang Xiao is at Forest City University in the Northern District.”

Xue Ying’s voice was icy as he spoke.

“Captain, Forest City University is a prestigious institution in Jiangnan Province. With the freshman military training in full swing, barging in to commit murder could draw unwanted attention from the military and certain agencies!”

A long-haired shadow interjected, her voice tinged with a sweet concern.

“Then we’ll have to lure him out and strike off-campus. Mei Ying, this task is yours.”

Xue Ying’s demeanor remained cool, his gaze settling on the long-haired shadow.

“Understood!”

Mei Ying replied without hesitation, her tone even, “I’ll seduce him out.”

Confidence in her allure was evident in the Rebirth Camp assassin known as Mei Ying.

“Dismissed.”

Xue Ying wasted no further words. With a nod, he vanished from the street lamp, leaving only its elongated shadow behind.

Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!

At his signal, the other Rebirth Camp assassins sprang into action, vanishing into the night.

In an instant, the shadows of ten street lamps stretched across the vast street, casting a dim glow on the pavement. It was so dark and deserted, it almost seemed as if no one had ever set foot on this place.
