Urban: Super God-Ring System

Chapter 13

C13 – It Shocked the Whole Class

The bell signaling the end of class had barely finished ringing when Wen Huaimu began packing his books, ready to head home for a meal. That’s when he noticed two classmates lingering by his desk.

Looking up, Wen recognized the pair as class troublemakers Li Gang and Li Mo. Rumor had it they had connections outside of school and were notorious figures among their peers.

Wen’s expression turned steely; he wasn’t intimidated by them.

Li Gang and Li Mo were taken aback by Wen’s composure. It appeared Wen’s demeanor had undergone a significant shift, and the rumors were true. Still, they considered Wen a pushover, someone they could easily torment.

Wen’s gaze sharpened as he locked eyes with Li Mo, a peculiar gleam flickering in his stare.

“Spirit Deterrence!”

This was a new spell Wen had mastered. Mind Shock, a low-level psychic magic, was tricky for most enchanters to wield. But Wen was gifted, his innate psychic force capable of manifesting a Devil Spirit for training. And so, the elfin had imparted this formidable magic to him.

“Release me,” Wen commanded, his voice booming. The eerie gleam in his eyes morphed into a dark, soul-eating shadow that crept into Li Mo’s gaze.

“Ah!”

Li Mo’s world turned topsy-turvy in a flash. He felt as if he had plummeted into hell itself, surrounded by ghastly skeletons, blood, and ceaseless shrieks.

In an instant, Li Mo’s complexion drained of color. He released his grip on Wen’s collar and stumbled backward in terror, screaming, “Ghost, there’s a ghost!”

Some students had lingered in the classroom, eager for some excitement. But upon witnessing Li Mo’s horrified look, they couldn’t contain their laughter. They were equally astonished by Wen’s ability to instill such fear in Li Mo. Did Wen possess a latent ferocity? He had managed to make the usually fearless Li Mo let out a piercing scream.

Li Gang was mortified by Li Mo’s pitiful display. He was nothing like someone aspiring to rise in the mafia. Seething, Li Gang fixed a venomous glare on Wen and hissed, “Kid, you’re way out of line.”

After finishing his taunt, Li Gang swung his fist, aiming a blow straight at Wen Huaimu’s face.

With a dismissive dodge, Wen Huaimu sidestepped Li Gang’s punch. A spark of magic gathered in his palm, striking Li Gang’s chest without a sound.

The force behind Wen Huaimu’s strike was minimal, barely a touch, yet the spark was a dense concentration of the fire element. Upon contact, it exploded silently, the shockwave piercing through Li Gang’s body, flushing his face with alternating shades of red and white. A tightness gripped his chest, and he felt an urge to cough up blood.

“You!”

Incredulous, Li Gang clutched at Wen Huaimu’s shoulder, but words failed him.

“Garbage!”

With scorn, Wen Huaimu brushed off Li Gang’s hand and shoved him to the ground. He cast a glance at Li Mo, whose eyes were still wide with fear, too scared to come closer. Wen Huaimu’s cold smile carried a warning, “Don’t start trouble if you can’t handle the fallout. Otherwise, you’re on your own.”

With that, Wen Huaimu nonchalantly gathered his books and strode out of the classroom.

The other students were left staring, mouths agape.

“Hey, did you catch that?”

“I did. That’s some real skill!”

“Is it for real? Boss Wen just gave a light palm strike, didn’t he? How could it pack such a punch?”

“Cut the chatter. Boss Wen handled Li Gang with ease. I had the clearest view.”

“I missed it. Boss Wen must’ve mastered some martial arts secret. That settles it; I’m asking him to take me on as a disciple.”

The students buzzed with excitement, their imaginations running wild. If only Wen Huaimu had stayed, he would have been just as astonished by their fanciful speculations.

Stepping out of the school, Wen Huaimu bypassed his family’s restaurant and headed to a bustling New Guizhou beef noodle joint near the school gates, ordering two servings of beef noodles.

Finding a quiet spot, Wen Huaimu shared a serving with the elfin, and they dug in heartily.

Wen Huaimu was merely sampling the fare, eating with measured enjoyment.

The elfin, however, was a different story. Wen Huaimu couldn’t help but wonder if there had been a mix-up when she was created. She seemed perpetually ravenous, devouring the hearty beef noodles as if they were the finest of delicacies.

“Hey, even though we’re alone, couldn’t you show a little restraint?” Wen Huaimu shot a scornful glance at the elfin.

Without looking up, the elfin slurped down her beef noodles before lifting her head and rolling her eyes. “I’ll never understand you humans. Eating should be a joyous occasion, not some slow, tedious chore that annoys me to watch.”

Wen Huaimu was at a loss for words.

“I’m still not full, though. Later, you can pop over to the supermarket and grab me some snacks. That place across the street looks good,” the elfin said, referring to a bustling medium-sized department store opposite Wen Huaimu.

Speechless once more, Wen Huaimu.

Post-noodle feast, at the elfin’s insistence, a resigned Wen Huaimu entered the department store. Guided by the elfin, he filled a cart with food until his funds ran dry, finally giving the elfin pause.

After paying, Wen Huaimu was dumbstruck. He hadn’t fostered an elfin, but a spending tyrant. She had blown through his savings in no time. How on earth would he support her going forward?

Just then, Wen Huaimu spotted Mr. Long Hair and his companions heading towards the school. Hastily, he paid up, stashed two large bags of food into his molding ring from a secluded corner, and dashed off to catch up with Mr. Long Hair.

“Mr. Long Hair.”

Approaching Long Hair, Wen Huaimu called out with due politeness, his tone devoid of any undue reverence.

Long Hair’s eyebrows quirked, his eyes betraying a flicker of annoyance. Yet, needing Wen Huaimu for tonight’s Red Bull earnings, he held his tongue.

“Money does talk, doesn’t it? You weren’t so keen this morning, but now you’re on board?” Long Hair said with a sly, mocking laugh.

Internally, Wen Huaimu acknowledged his need for cash. Externally, he managed an embarrassed smile and responded, “You’ve entrusted me with a task, Mr. Long Hair. Even without the money, I’d still honor your request. So, what do you need me to do tonight?”

Mr. Long Hair was quite pleased with Wen Huaimu’s discernment and gave a nod, his smile broadening as he spoke, “It’s not a bad thing at all. I assure you, you’re going to love it.”
