Yugioh Card Summoner

CH.541 Working as a Magic Lecturer

CH.541 Working as a Magic Lecturer

Today I decided to work on something I probably should have already developed. That being hands-free parts for my phones. Or wireless earbuds if you want to go there.

And honestly speaking, it really shouldn’t be that difficult to make something like that. The problem will be fitting in a power source, unless I can just have it draw power from the person wearing it.

No, I can’t have it draw power from HomeBase. The linked magic stones are still about 25mm in diameter, so they need a bit of space. And it is basically way too large for something you’d wear in, or around, your ear.

Because I don’t actually want to make in-the-ear earbuds. Instead, I want to make something like those decorative ear cuffs. I suppose you could also say it will look like a hearing aid, but I think I’ll decorate it more than that. Why make something ugly when you can make something pretty?

At first I wanted the ear communicators to act as fully independent phones, but I quickly realized that that wouldn’t work for two reasons.

First, because of mana consumption. The phone calls do still take some amount of mana, and with no magic stone to store mana into, the device will drain it directly from the user, which won’t be optimal in combat.

So instead, I linked the device to a regular cell phone, and since the cellphones have a magic stone that acts as a mana battery, they can keep the call active.

The second reason was actually the number of magic circles required for the calls. Carving and inlaying them into something the size of a phone isn’t that difficult, but making them into the earpiece is, while not impossible, very challenging. Yes it could be done, but it really isn’t practical.

Besides, any sort of hit to the earpiece will warp the magic circle, and the device will stop functioning. And I’m expecting that these things will break.

And while I’ve reinforced all phones I’ve made with defensive magic that makes them more durable, again, fitting something like that on top of the magic circle for the calls just isn’t feasible.

So instead, I’m making both earpieces and a new generation of phones. Luckily the phone upgrade isn’t much, you just need to insert a new thin metal plate containing a magic circle into your phone. And while the phones I gave away for free don’t have the space for them, the newer model phone that HomeBase employees use do have the space for these new magic circle cards, because I designed them that way.

It was kind of a ‘just in case’ feature I added, because I knew I’d forget something. And I didn’t want to make a new generation of phones every time I wanted to add a new feature.

So instead I left some space where you can install new magic circles, kind of like putting in an external hard-drive that carries a new program with it. Except that my magic hard-drives can also carry new hardware that the phone didn’t have previously.

So with that, I made the upgrade card for the phones and designed a few basic earpieces, so I could show them to everyone.

Most of the people liked my new earpieces. Except those of us that have a System Support. We don’t need it for our conversations.

The adventurer students were especially interested, as they would allow them to coordinate even if they split.

I asked what kinds of earpieces they’d want, and most wanted things that looked like strong monsters. Like dragons or a Fenrir. But one of the girl adventurers, the one wanting to use a swordstaff like Alice, wanted something that looked more like jewelry. Well, it will be no problem as long as I use artificial gems. They aren’t that expensive.

And not like I’ll have to worry about the things getting stolen if I use Owner’s Seal tech on them.

Spoiler

On a following day, I headed for the Hero’s country, specifically the Sage’s tower, as there was a meeting of the sages. And I’m a sage, so I’m taking part.

It really wasn’t anything special, but I did get introduced to some of the other sages I’ve yet to meet. I still haven’t met all of them, as not everyone could be present, but it was still cool.

I did have to give them a quick show on my skills though, as some of them doubted that someone as young as me could be a sage, but that was no problem.

Besides, most of them were honestly impressed by the fact that I figured out how to summon demons safely. Even if I still haven’t figured out how to make miasma stones without having to rely on my cards.

The sages then began to talk about jobs the tower had gotten. Most of them were things like ‘help build a new wall around a city’ or ‘come give a magic lecture at (insert school here)’.

These technically had nothing to do with me, as I was mainly a research sage, but I did agree to do a lecture on Space and Time Magic at a few different schools. Mainly because I’m the only sage who can actually use both.

And besides, it could be fun.

Naturally, I prepared for the lessons by making a full on slideshow I could show using Dungeon Founder of Mental Visual Designing. It was especially useful for Space Magic, as Space can be quite an abstract concept for people living in a world like this. I learned that much from teaching space stuff on HomeBase.

Sadly, for time, it was a lot more difficult to make visual slides. Time isn’t something you see, it is something you experience. Luckily, I have a monster for that. Specifically, Sephylon, the Ultimate Timelord.

Spoiler

I can just summon him and have the entire audience experience Time Magic, as it is the easiest way. At least I think so. And it should really leave an impression.

I held a practice lesson on HomeBase because I wanted feedback from students. It will prepare me for the actual thing, so I won't make a fool of myself when I actually hold these lectures.

I also got some questions I didn’t think about before, so now it will be easier to answer them, if someone asks.

The first of the lectures, yes there were going to be multiple, as there are multiple different schools where I’ll be holding the lecture, took place in the Bella Kingdon’s Royal Magic Academy.

Bella Kingdom, unlike Ruiso Kingdom, had a dedicated magic academy, while Ruiso Kingdom just has the Royal Academy.

But honestly, I think it is more for space. The Ruiso Kingdom Royal Academy has a massive plot of land, which is then divided for all the different practices you can study there.

But the Bella Kingdom Academy didn’t have enough space, so as the school expanded, they had to make different campuses for different things. General studies, magic studies and combat studies being the three largest.

After arriving in the city, by airship naturally, I was quickly greeted by a representative from the Academy.

He had a carriage prepared for me, but I instead brought out my own. Sages travel in magic carriages, I can’t use a regular one. Okay, I could, but I wanted to flex.

I had Cina, I brought her and Olia to be my attendants, drive the carriage. Olia can drive, but she isn’t as good as Cina and Molly are. And yes, Cina does have to use Horse-folk Reversion to drive the carriage. She could pull it, assisted by the magic engine, in her Centaur form. There is an entire control system attached to the pull-bar, so she won’t even have to pull the carriage, she would just be driving it from a different place.

Our first stop was the main campus of the Academy, aka. the general studies section. It was also one of the oldest buildings in the city, so it was really cool to get to see.

After a quick meeting with the headmaster, I was informed of when my magic lesson would be, and the representative then guided me to a high class hotel.

The place wasn’t too bad, but since it would be a few days, I wanted to stay on HomeBase. So I left a teleport slate in the hotel room and teleported back to HomeBase. As long as I have someone in the hotel, even if someone comes to get me, I can just teleport to the hotel with Teleport to Seal.

I even swapped who was waiting there, as I didn’t want Cina and Olia to miss out on what they wanted to do on HomeBase. For Olia that is spending time with her family, while Cina just goes on runs with Molly.

A few days later the time for my lecture came. And honestly speaking, it was a disappointment. The audience I had, while they were attentive, taking notes and just clearly took in everything I said, they didn’t ask any questions like my HomeBase audience did.

Why is the HomeBase audience better than the students of a literal magic academy? Is HomeBase teaching too good?

Well, it is taught by high level monsters, and they are basically legendary figures in the Yugioh lore, so maybe.

Luckily, after the lesson as I was just walking the campus, I had a few people come up to me and ask some questions.

Sadly, most of them were about me summoning a literal God of Time, not what I was teaching. But what can I do? My monsters are overpowered, so it is what it is.

In Narra Kingdom’s Royal Academy, things weren’t quite the same. There I actually received some questions about what I was teaching, though they also asked about my Time God summon.

Still, Narra Kingdom was overall a better experience than Bella.

Next up were a few smaller schools. In them, there weren’t many questions, however after my lectures, a few brave students did approach me and asked if I would take on an apprentice.

I promised to consider it, and asked for their names and contact information, so now I had a few people I could potentially teach Space Magic to. And Time Magic, but Space Magic is currently more important, so I can have people that aren’t me who are capable of teleporting.

One of the last schools I visited was the Ruiso Kingdom Royal Academy. I had been here before, and I scared the shit out of everyone last time with Obelisk the Tormentor, so maybe thanks to that, it was the most engaging lecture this far.

People weren’t too afraid to ask questions, even with Sephylon looming behind me, and I was more than happy to answer them.

I really need to start scaring people with God cards more. It seems to be quite effective in making them grow a backbone.

By the end of it all, I had nine people wanting to be my apprentice. And another ton of people who wanted to join the Card Summoner clan, but that part is still in consideration. I’m not giving anyone a God card just because they join.

So yeah. I got to be a visiting lecturer again, and it was fun enough.
