World Online

Chapter 45 Hours Later

The giant was not a problem. The NPCs who came after were not a problem either.

Jake could easily deal with these numbskulls who had Common Classes and almost no skill.

But after the fifth win, that was when the real fight started. That was when he was matched up against his first Rare Class NPC.

In World Online, NPCs were treated almost the exact same as players. They also had lives, and classes and they tried to do things for their own gain.

So when a normal-looking NPC with just a sword in his hand and nothing else dropped onto the arena, Jake's arm started tingling.

This was going to be a proper fight now, and it was a fight that he couldn't afford to lose. From now, every fight that he won would be one step closer to the seven thousand gold coins that he could get if he won.

And his levels also increased with the last few fights. He was all the way up in level twenty!

In fact, if it was anyone else, they would be in level thirty with the amount of exp they would gain by winning against these level forty NPCs.

NPCs did give more exp than normal, but Jake's case was a little bit different.

"I guess that they really balanced it out. How is it so hard for me to level up? It makes no sense." Jake cursed as he looked at the person who dropped onto the arena.

The match didn't start yet. It wasn't going to until Jake said that he was ready. But there was a time limit for that as well, of course. It was a feature that allowed the player to rest, not wait a whole day out.

Jake looked at his stats.

Jake did use a few of his free attribute points, and now he was stacked up. He wanted to save the rest for later though.

His eyes briefly hovered on the new stat that appeared, the skill points.

This was a feature that appeared once the player was at level twenty, but he didn't have any because he could get these skill points only by using class-specific skills again and again.

This was basically a grinding job. But the skill points would be extremely valuable later on. It would probably be more valuable to Jake, who had a legendary class.

But that was going to be useful only later, much later.

Now, Jake had to focus on what was in front of him. He held his sword and hoisted himself up, looking at the man in front of him with a cold glare.

He then looked at the notification to his right, a small pop-up box asking if he was ready, along with a timer that was slowly running out.

[Ready]

He clicked, and the box above slowly started rotating, counting down from three. The moment that the box rotated once more to hit zero, the man suddenly moved.

He was a blur, moving like the flash, appearing before Jake in an instant.

Clang!

Jake quickly defended, his sword barely blocking the thin sword that his opponent was holding.

The man retreated as quickly as he approached and kept a safe distance.

"I got matched against a speed-type NPC? He is defenseless, no armor, I just need to get a few attacks on him so that I can wear him out." Jake noted.

He was not exactly agile himself. Although his armor was overpowered in that it added some agility stat, it didn't exactly make him 'fast'.

Jake moved like a blur as well, but the man saw him coming from a mile away. He moved as well, avoiding Jake's charge and trying to attack him from the back.

"Whirlwind slash!"

He turned the whole three-sixty degrees, his sword slashing at the unsuspecting man, who barely avoided the attack by jumping back.

But the attack still grazed him.

[-400 HP]

An orange color accompanied this text, a sharp contrast to the reds of the critical hits. This was not a critical attack, it was just a graze.

But it did confirm one thing.

Jake's opponent had virtually no defense, for a simple graze like this to deal damage to this extent.

Jake smiled as he rushed forward, his sword slashing at the man.

The opponent quickly moved, his sword deflecting Jake's at times, and at others, he was parrying and then completely avoiding the attack altogether.

But not a single attack was going through, no matter how much Jake was pushing.

Jake shook his head as he took an unpredictable decision. He stopped midway through one of his attacks, standing like a moving target for his opponent.

Even though the man was confused, his programming told him to rush forward at this opportunity. The man's sword looked like it pierced Jake's armor when the armor shone.

"Reflect!"

The sword bounced off, and the man fell back with a critical hit.

[Critical Hit! -2000 HP]

But Jake would never leave an immobile opponent like this. It was an opportunity that he could not waste.

"Slash of Hunger!"

The sword's beautiful arc landed straight on the man.

[Critical Hit! -17000 HP]

[Victory]
